Drivers in northeast and eastern Iowa are paying sharply more at the pump than they did a year ago, according to AAA.

In the Cedar Rapids metro area, regular gasoline averages $4.08 a gallon, up from $2.64 a year ago. Farmers are feeling the squeeze too, as diesel averages $6.15, compared with $3.48 last year.

Dubuque drivers are paying the most for regular of the three areas, at $4.30 a gallon. That’s up from $2.87 a year ago, an increase of about 50%. Diesel there averages $6.17, up from $3.49, an increase of about $2.67.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls metro area has the lowest regular price of the three, at $4.06 a gallon, but it has the highest diesel price and the biggest diesel increase. Regular is up from $2.63 a year ago, about $1.42, or 54%. Diesel averages $6.20, up from $3.38 last year, an increase of about $2.81, or 83%.

Statewide, regular gasoline averages $4.13 a gallon, up from $2.68 a year ago, and diesel averages $6.16, up from $3.42.

For drivers in all three metro areas, filling a 15-gallon tank with regular now costs about $21 more than it did a year ago.
