Fall color in northeast Iowa is moving quickly toward its peak, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ latest fall color report.

Foresters estimate coverage is at roughly 75%, though that varies by area.

Oaks have started turning along with the rest of the trees. Oaks are usually among the last trees to change, so this is a sign the season is well along.

The timing is close to normal. According to the DNR, northeast Iowa typically reaches peak color on the weekend closest to October 10.
